Hedared Stave Church
Hedared is Sweden’s only surviving stave church. It was originally assumed to date from a similar period to the Norwegian stave churches because of its type of construction, but dendrochronology has given a date of 1498-1503, with 1501 as the most likely year for the felling of the trees.
A letter written by the bishop in 1506 refers to a new church and it is probable that this is the church he refers to.
