Sørvágur, Vágar

Sørvágur means “The Bay of Sør”. It is one of the oldest Viking Age settlements in the Faroes.

In 1957 excavations for the building of a new school produced evidence of a Viking Age settlement dating to within 100 to 150 years of the Viking Landnám of the Faroes in 825.
